I am also having alot of trouble with with our in class discussions, but it is not because they are student led. I am having trouble because of my limited religious background. I can not seem to follow some of our discussions or make obvious connections because of my lack of religios knowledge. This also makes me think that we are not analyzing this text through a rhetorical lens, because background knowledge is necessary. Of course I guess most of this knowledge is considered common knowledge and can therefore be used with rhetorical analysis. I just thought I would share a view differnt from Gabby, who has a very extensive religious background.
I'm wondering if there is an allusion I have missed. I was considering the idea of 9's in the text, and I thought maybe there is a direct reference to the bible, in terms of citation. Job 9 talks about the God paradox. Is there a reference I've missed?
I do have to admit that Mr. Robin not getting hit with the pie was pretty funny. What was even more funny was seeing how happy he was about it and seeing all the looks of disbelief in the crowd assemblies.
